In August 2023, the Local Authority, now known as North Yorkshire Council and incorporating all the North Yorkshire Districts under one unitary authority, introduced a new refuse and recycling system to draw all districts in line with each other.  Amalgamating 7 systems was never going to be an easy task, with some systems charging additional fees for recycling and garden waste, if they even had them at all.  Selby District had free recycling and free garden waste collections – the only district to offer this, but the unitary authority cannot afford to offer this to all districts.

The collection of refuse will remain fortnightly on a Wednesday.

on Wednesdays when refuse is not being collected, the recycling bins (blue and brown) will be collected, alternately (four weekly).

Green garden waste bin collections are now chargeable.  They are collected fortnightly with the recycling bins. You can find out more and pay for your household Garden Waste bin license here.

Your bin collection is Wednesday

Black Bin – Household Refuse

Green Bin – Garden Waste

Brown Bin – Paper & Card Recycling

Blue Bin – Glass, Cans & Plastic Recycling
